Our Coffee
Coffee sourced directly from local villages and smallholder farmers, our beans are aggregated through six processing centers. To achieve top quality and consistency, the Mount Meru Coffee Project continues to invest in advanced processing and sorting equipment.
Our medium roasts bring out a smooth, chocolaty character with semi-sweet, rustic undertones and subtle hints of caramel or floral notes. A touch of acidity adds depth without overpowering.
For a bolder experience, darker roasts offer a robust mix of chocolate and spice, with smoky undertones in the aftertaste. It’s a favorite for those who love strong, full-bodied coffee without excessive bitterness or sourness.

Tanzania
Located in the heart of East Africa, the Meru region of Tanzania is a rich in minerals, forests, wildlife, and agricultural land. While Tanzanian children often have access to primary education, advancing to secondary or higher levels is far less common due to systemic barriers. We aim to change this—one coffee pack at a time. By supporting local farmers, we can create opportunities in Tanzania, where Arabica coffee production forms a vital part of the community’s livelihood. Every purchase contributes to a brighter future for farmers and their families.

Mount Meru
On the fertile slopes of Mount Meru, our families grow coffee on plots ranging from 1 to 3 acres. These farms contribute to the 655,000 acres of land across Tanzania dedicated to growing both Arabica and Robusta coffee. Together with farms on Mount Kilimanjaro, they form the backbone of Tanzania’s coffee industry.
Our Process
Mount Meru Coffee is imported from Tanzania to Milwaukee, where it is roasted weekly in small batches by Imperial Coffee Roasters. The coffee is then ground, packaged, and shipped from our facility at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, with most of the grinding and order processing handled by volunteers.
Our products are available online, in the Greater Milwaukee Synod congregations, as well as other congregations and outlets nationwide.
