Meet Our Farmers

Learn about the hardworking farmers behind our produce. Samwel Aman Moses Urio is the son of a longtime coffee farmer and one who joined the Mount Meru Coffee Project in 2020. Samwel has himself experienced the difference coffee can make, crediting partnering with the Project for improving his family’s quality of life and funding his education. Now enrolled in Tengeru University, he continues to see coffee in his future.

Wilson Shanguya

Meet Wilson Shanguya, a father of six and a dedicated coffee farmer with two acres of land on the slopes of Mount Meru. He joined MMCP in 2018 to refine his farming practices and better understand coffee processing. With MMCP’s training and resources, he boosted his harvest, delivering 450 kg of cherries to local processing centers in 2022. Now, he’s set to expand by converting a nearby cornfield into more coffee acreage.

For Wilson, coffee farming is more than a livelihood—it’s a chance to build a better future. With hard work, hope, and MMCP’s support, he wakes each day knowing no dream is out of reach.

Anderson Sikawa

Anderson Sikawa has been a proud coffee farmer for decades, tending to 1,680 trees across three acres. In 1999, the Mount Meru Coffee Project’s promise of fair, stable prices drew Anderson in. Through MMCP, he attended training at the Tanzania Coffee Research Institute, where he mastered techniques to maximize yields.

Since then, Anderson’s annual harvest has ranged from 3,000 to 5,000 kg. His income has helped fund his children’s education, build a modern home, and start several ventures. With new coffee varieties taking root, Anderson’s farm is thriving, proving how perseverance—and a little help from MMCP—can change lives.

Ndekesio Nasari

Three years ago, Ndekesio Nasari, a widow with four children, turned to coffee farming on her one-acre plot, determined to create a better life for her family. Joining the Mount Meru Coffee Project gave her access to fairer prices and expert training in farm management and high-quality coffee varieties.

Her hard work has paid off—Ndekesio increased her harvest, upgraded her home, and gave her children the chance to pursue higher education. One daughter’s outstanding academic performance even earned her a full college scholarship, a rare achievement in rural Tanzania. Now, with MMCP, she’s turning her farm into a symbol of resilience, building a legacy that defies the odds.

Unambwe Moses Urio

As chairman of the Mlimani processing center and a father of five, Unambwe Moses Urio sees coffee as a shared endeavor and a source of hope. Since joining MMCP in 2020, his six-acre farm has been flourishing with 4,000 trees, including 1,000 compact varieties. All in all, his land produces an impressive 7,000 kg of coffee cherries annually.

Building on his success and MMCP training, Moses, along with his wife, now educates youth on the profitability of coffee, championing it over other cash crops. For this committed community leader, coffee isn’t just a personal victory—it’s a means to uplift others, a movement to inspire the next generation of growers.

Elia N Mbise

On his one-acre farm, Elia N Mbise cultivates coffee alongside hearty crops like corn, carrots, beans, and Irish potatoes. By joining the MMCP through the Mulala processing center, Elia now has access to fair prices and expert training. He currently has 200 young coffee trees and plans to expand to 500.

Because of MMCP and TaCRI, Elia revitalized his farm, replacing aging trees and boosting yields. With his increased earnings, he can ably provide for his wife and two children while also helping to fund the opening of the Songoro health clinic. As village chairman, Elia encourages others to see coffee as a path to meaningful opportunities and lasting change.
